Community Garden

Food security continues to be a critical since Hurricane Dorian struck in 2019, and Abaco meets the criteria to be defined as a food desert with limited access to fresh, nutrient dense food. Hydroponic Gardening Systems offers sustainable, replicable and resilient solutions to the current climate and are easily broken down and stored for expected storms. Abaco Strong is planning to construct a community garden in Treasure Cay that will act as a demonstration garden while providing hydroponically grown vegetables for participating community members. A hydroponic system consisting of 16 vertical growing stands that each house 168 plants for a total of 2,699 plants will provide enough food for 32 families or 128 individuals.
