Abaco Youth Baseball and Softball League

Troy describes Abaco Strong’s support as a stronghold in the program and the Abaco community at large stating, “Abaco Strong’s sincerity to push for progress in Abaco and its children is a source of strength and its leadership is commendable.”

The Abaco Youth Baseball and Softball League was founded by Troy Feaste, a Nassau native who moved to Abaco in 2017. Recognizing the lack of a youth sports program in the community, Troy set out to create a baseball and softball program that would prepare the youth of Abaco for future opportunities in sports and academics. Despite limited resources, the community showed overwhelming support, using traffic cones as bases and sourcing equipment from local hardware stores. Through the efforts of volunteer coaches, the young athletes, 90% of whom had never played baseball, were learning the fundamentals of the game.

However, just as the league was gaining momentum, Hurricane Dorian made landfall on September 1st 2019, causing extensive damage to the field and displacing many members of the community. Undeterred, Troy returned to Abaco two months later to rebuild the program. The residents of Abaco, determined and resilient, came out to the field with shovels and rakes to repair the field and get the program back on track.

Facing the challenges brought on by Hurricane Dorian and the COVID-19 pandemic, the league became a crucial outlet for the children of Abaco. In March 2021, Abaco Strong partnered with Abaco Youth Baseball and Softball League, supplying uniforms and scholarships, and rebuilding the restrooms at the field. Troy describes Abaco Strong’s support as a stronghold in the program and the Abaco community at large stating, “Abaco Strong’s sincerity to push for progress in Abaco and its children is a source of strength and its leadership is commendable.”

Today, the Abaco Youth Baseball and Softball League thrives with a growing number of players and teams. Recently, the 12 and under boys team and 16 and under girls teams brought home trophies from a national tournament in Grand Bahama. Abaco Strong proudly supports Troy Feaste and the dedicated individuals who have devoted countless hours to the league’s rebuilding. The organization continues to advocate for youth sports, recognizing their role in promoting discipline, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles for the

“Once upon a time many years ago, the Abaco Youth Baseball and Softball League started. I recall our boys and girls coming out with little to no knowledge of baseball and Softball. From holding a ball, putting on a glove for the 1st time, throwing and catching and running bases. Many kids have come to the program, some left for assortment of reasons and our kids who remained has endured all the challenges of playing the game of baseball and softball and the Lord know it’s not the easiest sports to play compared to others. Today, as I watched our children on the field, I was amazed at how far we have come since the early days of this journey. We have so much more work to do. Coach George, Coach Krishna, Coach Dwight, Coach Vogel,Coach Pedro, Coach Jeff, Coach Anthony and other coaches, all the wonderful parents, volunteers over the years whether still with us or not, we made it and our kids are real baseball and Softball players now. I am extremely proud of our children and the progress they have made. Proud to say a foundation is set for the future kids to come. We are at this point because of the grace and mercies of our God who has sustained our program and I ask for his holy protection as we move forward in the future and I thank you Lord for the doors and opportunities that are about to be open for our kids in Jesus mighty name.” – Troy Feaste | Founder of The Abaco Youth Baseball and Softball League
